Funding leans short across majors while options keep paying up for movement

Bitcoin sits at $82,522 with the whole complex tilted the same way: funding is negative on BTC, ETH and SOL, meaning shorts carry the crowd this morning. The tension is that options are still pricing more movement than the tape has actually delivered.

Positioning & volatility

AssetFunding (blended)25Δ skewImplied / realized volOpen interest
BTC-4% (HL -5 / OKX -3)-1.537.2 / 31.7$3.23B
ETH-5% (HL -2 / OKX -8)+0.649.9 / 40.3$2.76B
SOL-3% (HL -1 / OKX -5)n/an/a / 53.7$0.62B

Funding annualized; negative means shorts pay longs. 25Δ risk reversal in vol points; negative means downside hedged. Snapshots, not positions.

Every major reads balanced on funding, with blended rates sitting negative across the board, so there is no crowded long to squeeze here. BTC skew at -1.5 shows a mild bid for downside protection, while ETH skew at +0.6 is effectively flat, neither tail screaming. The consistent signal is vol: BTC implied runs 5.5 points above realized and ETH runs 9.6 points above, both flagged RICH. The market is paying up for optionality the recent tape has not justified, and it is doing so while positioning stays neutral.

ETH funding shows the widest venue split, with Hyperliquid at -2.5 against OKX at -8.1. That gap is a carry and mechanics dislocation, not a positioning story, since the premium reads balanced. Read it as cross-venue funding noise rather than one book leaning harder than the other.

Bottom line

Watch whether realized vol finally catches up to what options are charging, because BTC and ETH implied both sit well above what the tape has delivered. With funding negative and skew muted, the setup into the open is a neutral crowd paying rich premiums. SOL carries no skew or IV print this morning, so lean on its 53.7 realized for context.
