Cheap implied vol under a hot tape, and Hyperliquid's funding runs alone

BTC and ETH both carry blended positive funding, but that number is a mirage: Hyperliquid is printing near +11% while OKX sits at zero, and the premium reads balanced on both. Options tell the cleaner story. Implied vol is sitting below realized on the majors, which means the tape has been moving faster than the market is pricing forward.

Positioning & volatility

AssetFunding (blended)25Δ skewImplied / realized volOpen interest
BTC+6% (HL +11 / OKX +0)-1.038.1 / 32.1$2.37B
ETH+5% (HL +11 / OKX -0)+0.451.3 / 43.9$2.02B
SOL-2% (HL +1 / OKX -5)n/an/a / 41.4$0.36B

Funding annualized; negative means shorts pay longs. 25Δ risk reversal in vol points; negative means downside hedged. Snapshots, not positions.

The crowd lean is flat. Funding on BTC, ETH and SOL all flags balanced, so nobody is meaningfully paying to hold a side. Skew backs that up: BTC at -1.0 and ETH at +0.4 are both close enough to flat that neither tail is being aggressively bid. The tension is entirely in vol. BTC implied at 38.1 against realized 32.1, ETH implied 51.3 against realized 43.9. In both cases implied trades above what the tape actually delivered, so the market is pricing a bit more forward movement than it has seen. Calm crowd, slightly nervous options desk.

The BTC and ETH funding split between Hyperliquid and OKX is the loudest number on the page and the one to ignore. Roughly +11% on HL versus flat on OKX is a carry and mechanics dislocation, not a positioning fight, because the premium on both reads balanced. Hyperliquid funding clamps and drifts on its own, so treat it as venue noise rather than a signal about who is leaning where.

On-chain vs Wall Street

The on-chain open prices everything modestly softer than the last close, with CRCL showing the widest deviation at 51bp below its usual -299bp baseline. NVDA and TSLA are 18bp and 15bp off their own baselines, small moves, while COIN at -59bp is essentially parked at its normal discount and has not budged.

StockLast closeToken vs last close
CRCL$71-349 bp
NVDA$207-102 bp
TSLA$379-71 bp
COIN$176-59 bp

Bottom line

Watch whether implied vol on the majors converges back toward realized or whether the tape catches up to what options are pricing. Funding stays a non-story until the OKX side moves, since the Hyperliquid print carries no crowd information. The tokenized open leans a touch heavy but nothing has broken from its normal range.
